Our teachers are current investigators that work in the field daily, with experience in field operations, statement taking, surveillance operations, forensics investigation, electronic bug detection and much more. At Spy School, our teachers will transfer their investigations skill and field experience with practical face to face investigation training.

Luke Athens

Licenced since 1996 as a private inquiry and commercial agent at Fairfield Local Court, Luke Athens commenced his career as an insurance investigator conducting surveillance and factual investigations for the first 3 years in the industry whilst studying Technical Surveillance Counter Measures in America.

Luke then branched out into T.S.C.M once he completed his studies (Accredited T.S.C.M and forensic analyst) then opened his first business providing insurance investigations, electronic debugging, security risk management, infidelity investigations, debt collections and skip tracing.

As technology evolved, Luke then decided to invest heavily into technology to assist with his investigations, including computer/telephone forensic investigations and electronic de-bugging equipment. Luke’s technical knowledge has now become his area of expertise across many facets of investigations.

“Luke is seen in the industry as the investigator to be reckoned with for technical solutions and issues that seem too difficult to be solved.”

Luke now offers his experience to new graduates in the investigation field that wish to join Spy School with a skill set that will jump start their career. Luke thrives on assisting students bring out their best potential.

David Romeo

david romeo-greyDavid Romeo commenced his career as a licensed investigator in 1994 issued by Liverpool Local Courthouse.

David’s career commenced with infidelity investigations, serving court documents as a commercial agent, repossessions & general surveillance work from commercial clients.

In 1996 David was one of the first investigators in Australia to acquire specialised T.S.C.M (Technical surveillance counter measure) equipment and created his company called Spy Biz.

Spy Biz delivered sales and consultancy based security risk mitigation services on high tech surveillance & and counter surveillance equipment.

Consulting to Investigation companies & government officials such as the Vice Consulate General Australia, The People’s Republic of China, Australian Defense & Multinational corporations.

In 2005 at the infant stage of GPS technology David ventured into the development of covert GPS tracking systems, designing and developing several types of GPS devices for surveillance operatives, law enforcement and commercial trucking companies. Now David’s GPS business trades under the banner of ‘Eye In the Sky’.

Ray King

ray king_greyRay King commenced his policing career as a 16 year old police cadet at the Redfern Police Academy, where he studied criminal law, shorthand and typing.

He was sworn in as a Probationary Constable and attached to Chatswood in the early 1970’s. After five years working in General Duties, Ray pursued a career in criminal investigation and commenced work at No. 21 Division where he remained for 18 months.

In 1978 Ray was transferred to Liverpool Police Station (criminal investigation office) and in 1979 successfully completed the Detective Training Course – he was designated Detective.

Ray continued to work at Liverpool up until 1982 when he was transferred to the NSW Police Drug Squad in Sydney as an investigator and team leader. He worked in co-ordination with the Squad’s surveillance and undercover units to investigate and arrest many major illicit drug sellers.

In 1987 Ray transferred to Fairfield Patrol and later in 1995 to Cabramatta Patrol as the Chief of Detectives.

In 1996 Ray was awarded the prestigious ‘Peter Mitchell Award’ for the most outstanding investigator in NSW, for leading five investigations into murder within the Cabramatta Patrol – solving all murders and arresting seven offenders.

In 1999 Ray was promoted to Inspector and during his time as Inspector led the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit at Zetland.

He was promoted in 2003 to Chief Inspector at Macquarie Fields Local Area Command. In 2005 Ray was promoted to Superintendent at Fairfield Local Area Commander.  He remained the Local Area Commander at Fairfield up until 2008 when he was transferred to neighbouring Cabramatta.

After 3 years at Cabramatta Ray transferred to Liverpool Local Area Command in 2011 where he later retired from Policing in 2013 to pursue a career in politics and consultancy. As a Police Commander Ray was in charge of up 250 police officers.

During his career Ray completed a Bachelor of Policing (Investigations) degree and also a Graduate Certificate in Police Management at Charles Sturt University.

Ray continues today to work in investigations taking on various contracts. He has a broad experience in interviewing and statement taking.
